Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning ‘finger pressure’. Shiatsu is a form of holistic massage and was developed in Japan in the early 20th century, although its origins date back to China around 530BCE as part of Traditional Oriental Medicine. It evolved from a combination of a self-massage and exercise process known as Toa-Yin (or Do-In) and an acupuncture-based massage system known as Anma. It became known as Shiatsu because as Western Allopathic Medicine became more influential in Japan the use of Anma was gradually restricted, so Anma therapists coined the term Shiatsu to avoid these restrictions.

There are two main schools of Shiatsu:

Nippon Style Shiatsu, developed by Tokujiro Namikoshi, which in Japan is based exclusively on Western medical concepts but in Europe and the USA incorporates some aspects of Traditional Oriental Medicine.

Zen Shiatsu, developed by Shizuto Masunaga, which is based on the principles of Traditional Oriental Medicine but integrates Western physiology and psychology.

There are also other methods of Shiatsu that incorporate aspects of both of the above methods in varying degrees.

The method that I practice is Zen Shiatsu. It differs very much from Western style massage as it is practiced on mats on the floor rather than on a massage table, no oil is used, and the recipient wears loose comfortable clothing. The technique involves stretching and leaning body weight onto areas of the recipient’s body. Pressure is mainly applied using hands, thumbs and fingers, and occasionally the forearms, knees and feet are also used. The treatment is focused along the acupuncture channels known as meridians.

These meridians carry the subtle body energy known as Chi or Ki. There is no accepted equivalent of Chi in Western Medicine; Chi is roughly translated as ‘essential life energy of the body, mind and spirit’. According to Traditional Oriental Medicine, the effective flow of Chi within the body is the basis of health. All illness, disease, pain and tension is a result of blockages in the flow of Chi. The existence of Chi has yet to be recognised by Western Medicine mainly because it is so subtle that the technology required to measure it has only recently been developed. As this technology further develops Western Medicine will eventually be revolutionised by the recognition of Chi and the combination of traditional techniques with these new technologies.

Shiatsu releases blockages in the flow of Chi, and thus heals and relaxes the whole person to a very deep level. The first time I received a Shiatsu massage I remember telling the therapist afterwards that although I had felt very relaxed after various Western-style massages, Shiatsu had left me feeling peaceful. This is due to its holistic qualities – it calms the mind, emotions and spirit a well as the body.

Shiatsu is a full-body treatment normally lasting 50-60 minutes and often includes a head and face massage.

The body is reflected in the feet, and by working the pressure points on the feet reflexology has a balancing effect on the recipient.

Various forms of reflexology have existed in indigenous societies across all continents for thousands of years. The earliest known reference to a form of reflexology is an illustration on the walls of the physician’s tomb at Saqqara in Egypt. In China it was a precursor to the development of the acupuncture system. It was introduced to the West as Zone Therapy in 1913 in the USA by Dr William H Fitzgerald and Dr Edwin Bowers. But it was the work of Eunice Ingham, a nurse and physiotherapist, in the 1930s that gave reflexology its name and provided the foundations of most current menthods.

There has been very little scientific research done to help us understand how reflexology works, but it is generally believed that as the feet contain hundreds of thousands of nerve endings, the stimulation of these nerve endings sends messages to the brain to regulate the corresponding area of the body. This idea is further supported by the fact that reflexology produces instant results for the nervous system, as it is an extremely relaxing therapy. It has also been shown to have positive effects on more chronic nervous conditions.

It is very effective also for the endocrine system, bringing significant improvements to problems caused by hormonal imbalances. It has also been shown to be effective for the digestive and circulatory systems, and helps regulate imbalances in all of the other body systems. It has a balancing effect on all of the organs of the body and has even produced results for some chronic conditions considered incurable by allopathic medicine. It is not an instant miracle cure however. As with most holistic treatments one or two sessions of reflexology can be very effective for acute conditions, but chronic long-term conditions will usually require a longer term course of treatments in order to see results.

On a more holistic level it calms the mind and brings clarity to the emotions, and as it puts the recipient into a meditative state it can facilitate spiritual awareness and has been known on occasion to help bring on a spiritual experience.

The importance of breathing with awareness is too often overlooked. It benefits our whole being - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Many people do not breathe properly. This article explains how to breathe and outlines some of the main benefits of conscious breathing.

One of the signs of the evolution in human consciousness has been the growth of the self-help movement, as people begin to take more responsibility for their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. There are thousands of self-help methods available that claim to help you to do anything from lose weight to ascend to a higher dimension.

The most common element that nearly all of these methods share is a focus on conscious breathing, usually as a tool to help you relax before going into the method’s actual practice. Despite this ubiquity, breathing itself is often underrated. Having used many self-help methods over many years, I am convinced that ultimately the most valuable self-help tool is breathing itself. One of the reasons that I was drawn to the teachings of the Crimson Circle is the fact that conscious breathing is the main method that they recommend above all others.

As humanity begins to move into new energy, many methods that may have worked well in the past are no longer as effective as they once were. In some ways much of the new age movement can get stuck in a similar mindset to the religions that it claims to supersede, as they emphasise and hang onto their methods as gospel, when a lot of these methods were only meant to be stepping stones on the evolutionary path.

Breathing is one of the few methods that continues to be important in the spiritual realms. This may seem surprising, as even those of us who have a conscious spiritual awareness probably tend to think of breathing as being a mainly physical exercise, and that once we let go of this mortal coil it is no longer needed. Apparently this is not so, as a form of breathing continues with our consciousness after death. This should give us a clue that when we breathe there is a lot more happening than just the intake of oxygen and nitrogen and the expulsion of carbon dioxide. Yoga and other Eastern philosophies teach that what we breathe in is the essential spiritual life force that is the connecting and empowering energy for the whole universe. In India it is known as prana, and in China as chi or ki. The philosophy of Breatharianism is based on this idea, such that conscious breathing of prana energy can be utilised to sustain the physical body without the need to ingest food.

Breathing consciously is the most powerful way to move stuck energy. This can work in all four of the aspects of our beings: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Physically it releases stress and tension and helps to increase body awareness. Due to the influence particularly of science and also Western society in general, we tend to believe that it all happens in our minds, such that we become captive to our minds and lose contact with the body. While breathing consciously it is difficult to keep a mental focus. This is very useful because to take away the focus on the mind for just a few minutes on a regular basis both releases mental tension and begins to break the hold that the mind can have on us to the detriment of the other three equally important aspects. Breathing is also one of the best tools for releasing negative and blocked emotions, and it facilitates spiritual awareness. By inhaling consciously we draw the essential life force into our whole being more effectively. By exhaling consciously we express this divine energy out into the world.

As breathing is something that we’ve all done all our lives, you would think that we would at least know how to breathe properly. But I have found through my massage practice – particularly shiatsu massage – that many people don’t breathe properly, including some who have practiced yoga or tai chi or similar methods that normally place a heavy emphasis on the breath.

As our lungs are located in the chest area, it is natural to think that breathing by expanding the chest is efficient. But this is not so. The lungs are pear-shaped, and chest breathing only draws air into the top one-third of the lungs. To actually fill the lungs with air requires you to breathe using the diaphragm and the belly. The diaphragm is a dome-shaped muscle that sits below the lungs, and is one of the most important and underrated muscles in the body. It is the only muscle that works both vountarily and involutarily, keeping us breathing while asleep. This dual ability means that the diaphragm is a link between the unconscious and the conscious mind. The lungs themselves have no muscles, so require the diaphragm to contract downwards, creating space in the lungs which draws in air. If you rely on expanding your chest to breathe deeply, the diaphragm does not contract downwards much, so less air is drawn into the lungs. It is also more work to expand the chest than it is to contract the diaphragm, so the lesser amount of oxygen that is drawn in when chest breathing is also utilised less effectively.

A useful exercise is to sit or lie comfortably, with one hand on the chest and the other hand on the belly. Loosen the clothes around your waist. Breathe deeply, and take notice of which hand moves more as you breathe in and out. If the hand on your chest is moving more, then you are not breathing deeply or filling the lungs with air. Practice pushing your belly out as you breathe in, until the hand on your belly moves more than the hand on your chest. It might feel strange at first, but you will be filling your lungs with air and providing your body with as much as 200% more usable oxygen.

This belly breathing might need to be practiced on a regular basis for quite a time before it becomes second nature, as the bad habits of a lifetime do not usually break easily. Western fashion and social norms are not helpful, as we are all encouraged to hold our belly in and stick our chest out. Many types of clothing do not make belly breathing comfortable. Since I have practiced conscious breathing I tend to favour clothes that are looser and have elastic waists.

But these minor inconveniences are far outweighed by the benefits of conscious breathing :

Over time you will find that you will be more relaxed and calm in the face of stress.

Breathing consciously and regularly will give you some emotional detachment from other peoples’ dramas, enabling you to act from a place of true compassion rather than being dragged into an expected emotional reaction.

You will begin to feel a stronger connection to your body and will become more aware of its needs.

In moments when your mind is overwhelming you with repetitive and negative thoughts and their accompanying fear-based emotions, being able to stop and breathe deeply will help to release such thoughts and emotions, so you will become more aware of your deeper feelings. The diaphragm is the physical bridge through which your gut and your heart communicate. It enables your intuition and true feelings to connect with one another.

Conscious breathing connects us to the present moment. When you maintain a focus on your breath it is difficult to dwell in the past or worry about the future for any length of time.

Deep breathing facilitates spiritual growth, particularly if combined with meditation. This will become more important for all of us, as one of the results of the current acceleration in the evolution of human consciousness is that the veil between the physical and spiritual dimensions is getting thinner. More and more people are beginning to have experiences of the spiritual realms. To be able to breathe consciously and deeply at will is the best tool for integrating such experiences.

Description of Channelling. The life of Edgar Cayce, his first reading, 20 years of successful healings, moving on to readings on philosophical readings philosophy, spirituality, meditation, dream interpretation, intuition, history and ancient civilizations, prophecies and relationship advice.

Edgar Cayce

Channelling is a process whereby a person allows themselves to become a channel of communication for spiritual entities from beyond the physical realm. In principle it is similar to mediumship, the main difference being that mediums tend to focus on the communication with those recently departed from the physical realm, usually with the purpose of comforting relatives and friends of the deceased. Channelling however is usually communication with entities believed to be more highly spiritually evolved, with the purpose of gaining information for education and spiritual advancement.

Although mediumship has been widely practised throughout recorded history, channelling is a relatively new phenomenon in the Western World. The first widely recognised channeller was Edgar Cayce (pronounced ‘Casey’), sometimes referred to as the ‘sleeping prophet’. Born in Kentucky in 1877, he exhibited psychic traits as a child, but was a devout Christian with a desire to become a preacher. However at the age of 23 he developed laryngitis and was unable to speak above a whisper for several months, such that for a time he gave up hope of ever speaking normally again as doctors and specialists were unable to cure him. He gave up his job as a salesman and began a career in photography.

A travelling stage hypnotist called ‘Hart, the Laugh King’ heard about Cayce’s condition and offered to hypnotise him in an attempt to effect a cure. This was done publicly and to the amazement of all Cayce was able to speak normally while hypnotized. Hart several times tried post-hypnotic suggestion that the voice would continue to function after the trance, but the laryngitis returned each time he awoke.

Al Layne, a local self-taught hypnotist and osteopath, offered to help. He suggested that Cayce describe the nature of his condition and cure while in a hypnotic trance. Cayce described his problem as a “psychological condition producing a physical effect.” He stated that the condition could be removed by suggesting to him while in the unconscious state that the blood circulation increase to the affected areas. After Layne made the suggestion, the upper part of Cayce’s chest and his throat turned bright red and the skin became warm. Twenty minutes later Edgar spoke again, stating that before Layne awakened him the suggestion should be made that the blood circulation return to normal. Layne followed the instructions. When Cayce came out of the trance, despite being completely unaware of what he had said, he was able to speak normally for the first time in almost a year.

Layne himself suffered from a chronic stomach condition, and asked if Cayce would do a reading for his condition. Cayce felt obliged to help, and in the trance state accurately described Layne’s condition and prescribed a cure combining natural medicines, dietary changes and exercise. Within a week Layne felt so much better that he implored Cayce to continue doing readings, arguing that he had a moral obligation to help people. Cayce was wary, having no prior knowledge of medicine and a suspicion of the psychic process due to his religious beliefs. Layne was insistent and after much prayer, Bible reading and consultation with his family, Cayce finally agreed.

Word spread and Cayce began to do readings on a regular basis, asking only for donations from those who could afford it. It was discovered that he only needed the name and location of a patient to prescribe a cure, and he began to receive mail requests. He had much success and his fame spread, and he continued to give readings on a regular basis. Even though he was reluctant for a while, his success began to convince him that he had a gift from God. One of his readings stated that whilst in the trance state the conscious mind becomes subjugated to the subconscious, superconscious or soul mind; and communicates with like minds, and the subconscious or soul force becomes universal. From any subconscious mind information may then be obtained.

At one point he was persuaded by oil prospectors to give readings on possible oil sites, but these were unsuccessful. The readings stated that the readings were never to be used for financial gain, and he came to the conclusion that he would use his gift only to help the distressed and sick.

After over 20 years of giving mainly health related readings, he was asked by Alfred Lammers, a wealthy printer and student of metaphysics, to give a philosophical reading. In the reading he mentioned a past life of Lammers, and upon waking was shocked to hear this, as it conflicted with his religious beliefs. This led him to much soul searching, and in a reading he was advised to read the whole Bible whilst keeping the idea of reincarnation in mind. He came to believe that the idea of reincarnation was not incompatible with Christianity and actually gave him a deeper appreciation of the purpose of life.

In 1925 Cayce realised a long held dream, moving to Virginia and setting up a hospital where trained medical staff would treat those he gave readings for. He also began to do ‘life readings’, looking at peoples’ past lives and how that affected them in their present lives. These readings expanded to include mental and spiritual counsel, philosophy, spirituality, meditation, dream interpretation, intuition, history and ancient civilizations, prophecies and relationship advice.

In 1931, the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.), was formed as a research body whose goal was to investigate and disseminate the information contained in Cayce’s readings. As his fame as a psychic grew, many skeptics came to Virginia Beach to expose him as a fraud, but in time all were convinced of the legitimacy of what he was doing. Thomas Sugrue, a staunch Catholic, investigated what he thought had to be trickery and ended up writing ‘There is a River’, Cayce’s first biography, published in 1943.

Cayce pushed himself to do more and more readings to keep up with the demand, and this began to take a toll on his health. He died in 1945 at the age of 67. It is estimated that he gave over 20,000 readings, although only 14,000 of these remain today. Although he died long before the emergence of the New Age movement he remains a major influence on many of its teachings. These days it is probably his prophecies that get the most attention. Many – though not all – have come true. His readings stated that prophecy is only given as a warning, that the future is not fixed and that human free will makes virtually everything possible. Therefore a successful prophecy is one that has been averted, and is definitely not a sign of a fake, as some skeptics have claimed.

What we believe creates much of our reality, but much of our beliefs are simply absorbed from others. In the new consciousness old rigid beliefs wont sustain us. Ideas will be more malleable to changes.

The world as we experience it is shaped by our beliefs. Whether you are religious or not, you still have beliefs. According to St Germain (as channelled by Geoffrey Hoppe of the Crimson Circle) the average human being has millions of belief systems. I’m not sure that I believe that, it sounds like a lot to me!

So what exactly is a belief? Amongst the many available dictionary definitions, the most encompassing yet brief definition I found was in Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary. It defines belief as:

Assent to a proposition or affirmation, or the acceptance of a fact, opinion, or assertion as real or true, without immediate personal knowledge; reliance upon word or testimony; partial or full assurance without positive knowledge or absolute certainty; persuasion; conviction; confidence; as, belief of a witness; the belief of our senses.

This is a very broad definition. The first phrase could mean just having a vague idea of something. So even an agnostic – who professes no religious beliefs – could say something like ‘I lean towards the idea that the human experience ends completely at death’ and it is still considered a belief. If this is the case, then it certainly might be possible that the numbers of our belief systems run into the millions. Consider how many everyday expressions – such as the following – are actually statements of belief:

That’s just the way it is
You can’t always get what you want
God only knows
There’s 2 certainties in life – death and taxes
Life wasn’t meant to be easy
Cleanliness is next to Godliness

Each of us could come up with similar – and longer – lists. We absorb so many of these kinds of beliefs in childhood, many of them we barely understand at the time, but together they form the filters through which we view and interpret the world around us. They are the framework around which we build our habits, personality and identity. Our personal belief systems are our major influence on how we perceive our individual reality. And even more so, our collective belief systems shape the world that we live in, creating much of our concensus reality. Only in times of crisis do many of us question just a few of these beliefs.

We are now in a period where many beliefs are being called into question. With the current economic, political and environmental upheavals, our beliefs about many of the instutions – such as governments, corporations and banks – that many of us have taken for granted, are being sorely tested at the moment. It is a wake up call for all of us, even if we are relatively unaffected by the financial crisis.

Behind a lot of these beliefs are some of our deeper core beliefs, which will also need to be re-examined in the growing wave of higher consciousness. Much is happening in the spiritual realms for which the secondhand and outdated belief systems of world religions have no satisfactory answers. It is time for each of us to dig deep into ourselves to discover our true deep feelings about who we are and why we are here. Because that is where our strongest belief systems come from. Despite the efforts of organised religion to encourage belief in the ‘facts’ of their sacred texts, our major belief systems are born from our deepest feelings. They have much more to do with what is in our hearts than what is in our minds.

Many of us may not be aware of what we believe. One of the better tools to help us examine our beliefs is meditation. By allowing ourselves to step out of ordinary life and concensus reality for even just a few minutes, and to take a step back within ourselves just to listen to and observe the myriad of beliefs that our mind begins to regurgitate, we begin to get an idea of the substance of our beliefs. It is amazing how much of these beliefs we have simply absorbed and accepted from our parents, teachers, friends and other role models. With increased awareness of our belief systems we can then begin to decide which beliefs serve us, and which belief systems require us to serve them.

Many believers believe that their beliefs should be unshakeable, they should be strong enough to withstand doubt. But as a strong tree is one that sways in the wind, I prefer to believe that a strong belief is one that bends and changes with each new experience. A rigid belief system will collapse in the strong winds of change that are currently buffeting us. Especially when it comes to those beliefs for which we have no absolute certainty. I rather prefer to think of my beliefs as ideas, because ideas can be more easily adapted.

A belief’s a dangerous thing … People die for it. People kill for it … I think it’s better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life is malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can’t generate. Life becomes stagnant.’

Paul Vedant ponders his existence and expresses some of his current ideas about his larger identity.

Who Am I?

- The Bigger Picture -

The question ‘Who Am I? is possibly humanity’s number one frequently asked question, a question that probably produces more possible answers than there are stars in the sky. I have asked myself this question many times in my life so far, and explored many of the recommended methods that are supposed to help one find an answer. These methods have ranged from world travel to travelling the inner worlds, and this website is an attempt to document some of my experiences during this exploration. But here I offer some of my ideas about who I am now.

I am a spiritual being having a human experience, as I believe are all of us.

I am a virtual reality computer game avatar in a vast holographic 3D virtual world, where the players – many of whom created the game in the first place – have handed the remote control to the avatars, so soon after the avatar’s entrance in the game that most avatars are not aware of the existence of the player.

Although I would lend credence to many of the ideas of the so-called New Age movement, I no longer consider myself purely as a lightworker, having had to learn to work with the darker aspects of my soul in recent years! But I am not just a darkworker either, I consider that both of the light and dark polarities are different manifestations of what is basically the same energy, so I would rather call myself an energy worker.

Despite some of my lyrics in The Love Frequency, I am not sure that the term ascension – the idea that one spiritually evolves moving up through the dimensions until one can finally throw off this mortal coil and become purely spirit – is fully appropriate for the pathways I find myself on. I certainly believe it has been important in our understanding of the whole process of spiritual evolution, but these days I find myself more aware of a process of descension, that of my soul or higher divine self in the gradual process of ‘descending’ into my physical body. Because of the soul’s inherent multi-dimensionality, I am becoming more aware of the different dimensions but not in the sense of ascending through the various levels so much as being aware – from my physical centre – of dimensions intermingling with each other.

I wonder that in some ways the focus of many on ascension is a stepping stone – or perhaps a hangover – from the Christian idea of the rapture. It still has the idea of physical reality being something somehow considered as low consciousness and something that needs to be moved beyond. It is often suggested in many of the channels of the Crimson Circle rather that physical existence is in some ways the highest ladder on the rung that existence or All-That-Is has seen so far, and that there are angels and spirits simply clamouring to come here. In order to evolve, one must enter and master the Earth realms, over may lifetimes. The soul guides the ‘lower’ human ego to gradually evolve its awareness to the point that the soul feels welcomed by the human to merge with it, momentarily at first but gradually increasing to the point where it becomes the norm.

I will continue to add to this as more ideas come to mind…

Man, get your tiny mind in line
With the grand design divine
Get your tiny mind in line with the Gaia Mind

Who put the sun and the moon in the skies
So they look the same size to human eyes?
Who put them there like that? Huh?
Who put them there like that?

With the grand design divine
Get your tiny mind in line with the Gaia Mind

Who put everything a person might need
All inside one tiny hemp seed?
Oh, Who put it all in there like that?
Who put it all in there like that? Huh?

Sure is a UK based singer/songwriter who lives in a forest surviving only on what she can forage. Gaia Mind was originally an acapella recording that I have added music to. Here you can listen to the results.

This is a remix of a song by a UK singer/songwriter called Sure. I was introduced to Sure’s music several years ago by Steve Charter from Ecoforest, when I was attending the Permaculture Design Certificate course. At that time she had a website where her songs could be downloaded for free. She gave permission for remixes to be done from her music, and I started this remix from her acapella version a few years ago. I had got about half way to completing it when my hard drive failed and I lost the original song files (consequently I now keep 2 copies on 2 separate hard drives!). All I was left with was a rough mp3 mixdown of the song, which I did nothing with until recently, the result of which you can listen to below. Unfortunately the vocals were a little low on the rough mix, and now Sure’s website is no longer in operation, and I have been so far unable to obtain another copy of her original vocals in order to enhance them.

I have not met Sure, but she practices what she preaches, having lived for several years in a forest in the UK, living close to nature and apparently thriving on what she can forage. Her lifestyle and ideas are reflected in her songwriting.

This site aims to express my ideas, and also be artistically pleasing, functional, quick to load, informative and intuitive. I have used crop circle images and artwork from Alahuin. Includes some technical details of how the site functions.

Alahuin Graphics

When I began creating this site I had several aims in mind. I intended to create a website that is representative of ideas that are important to me, as well as being aesthetically pleasing, functional, quick to load, informative and intuitive to the user – all on a low budget. Not all these aims were immediately compatible and some compromises had to be made. For example, a plain colour background, header and sidebar would load more quickly but I compromised a little speed in order to include images and a more textured finish.

The four background images that sit in the main body of the site are all taken from recent crop circles. I have long been fascinated by the crop circle phenomenon, as many of the symbols represented give me the feeling that what they are expressing is a form of higher consciousness, much more than just what appears at face value. The four crop circles I have chosen represent for me the four classical elements. The top image of an eagle in a South American indigenous style represents the element of Air. Going in a clockwise direction, the next image of a star represents Fire. The goddess image at the bottom is Gaia, the spirit of Earth. The left image of stylized dolphins represents the Water element.

The animated image that changes colour in the top left hand corner is taken from the psychedelic computerized artwork of Alahuin. It is a stylized version of a Mandlebrot Set, a type of fractal. A fractal is a mathematically generated geometric shape that appears similar at all levels of magnification. Fractals are based on new mathematics that have been developed over the last hundred years or so. They are considered to be infinitely complex and therefore more accurately describe natural processes than the traditional Euclidean geometry that has dominated mathematics since 300BCE. Natural objects that approximate fractals include clouds, mountain ranges, lightning bolts, coastlines, and snow flakes. Ecometry has many fascinating images of fractals in nature.

Alahuin‘s artwork is also represented in the background image of the buttons in the left hand side bar, and also the image that appears on the left of the footer bar at the bottom of each page. This image is a stylized version of a Vesica Piscis, a powerful symbol in sacred geometry, that over milenia has been used as a representation of the divine feminine principle, as well as later being adopted by Christianity and stylized as a fish.

For information on links on this site, hover the cursor over the link. A description box will appear with some information on the site being linked to, and whether it opens in a new or same tab/window. All links to other sites normally open in a new tab or window. The general rule I have followed for internal links – links to other pages on this site – is that links within the body of the text open in a new tab or window, and links at the bottom of the page open in the same tab or window. This is because when I am browsing I often like to read a whole page first, and then afterwards go to the other pages that are linked to in the body of the text. If this annoys you, just right-click on the link and open it in the same tab or window.

Many of the external links in the site are to Wikipedia. This is not because I consider Wikipedia to be the ultimate source of knowledge, rather that it is often one of the best places to start when researching a topic.

Most of the images on the site, unless otherwise credited, come from Big Stock Photos. This site is built on the WordPress blog tool and publishing platform. It is free to use open source software. If you would like a similar site built, please contact me.

Many thanks to Ricky of qubetech.net for his hard work and patience while building this site.
